By: Brian Kridler, Director of Fitness Services and Personal Trainer at Oxford Athletic Club
The old expression, "actions speak louder than words" could not hold more weight in any situation than in a gym setting. The only thing that speaks in our facility are actions. If you do not present yourself with good character, your true potential will never shine fully in the gym. There have definitely been times along my journey where I have shorted my workouts, and mostly myself, when I let bad character convince me that 7 reps were okay because "I was tired" or I didn't have the motivation to keep pushing. Which led me to thinking that a workout partner might be a great solution to this. If I had someone to hold me accountable, why would I not take advantage of that? Choose a workout partner with the character traits that will lead you to success on your fitness journey. For example:
1. Integrity
Aren't you going to finish that last rep? Aren't you going to finish your workout? Did you up your resistance this set? Integrity is one of the most important traits in order to reach one's wellness SMART Goals.
2. Persistance
SMART Goals require determination if you plan on reaching them. properly created SMART Goals should be difficult to obtain but with a little but of persistence, they are attainable.
3. Cooperation
Find an exercise partner. Join a fitness class. Either of these area great way to collaborate with like-minded people who will push you to succeed.
4. Tolerance
