Most of us exercise for a few key reasons:

  1. To lose weight
  2. To maintain weight
  3. To tone (or bulk) up
  4. To relieve stress.

While these are all valid reasons to commit to a fitness routine, exercise can also be a powerful asset to simply improve the way you move through the world. This better at life, overall wellness approach is the core foundation of functional training.

Simply put, functional training works to improve your strength, stability, and mobility to thrive in your daily life and sports. It uses basic functional movement patterns—like pushing, pulling, hinging, squatting, rotating, carrying, walking and running—from your everyday life. These patterns are built into a workout regimen which keeps you fit and improves your daily movement proficiency to enhance all aspects of your life.

Functional training is also an incredible fitness option because it can be customized to fit your specific needs and lifestyle. Professional athletes swear by functional fitness because it can be tailored to improve their specific types of movements most related to their field. Similarly, functional fitness routines can be structured to fit your daily movements and goals to best enhance your everyday life.

Bottom line: functional fitness is for everyone! It can be incredibly beneficial for all ages, fitness levels, and skills.

With this in mind, Oxford is investing in expanding our functional fitness offerings as we move forward with the first phase of renovations. Functional fitness is an essential aspect of modern athletic clubs, and we are thrilled to be expanding both inside and outside of the club to offer our members a truly unique and memorable experience.

This is only one of the many new and exciting amenities we will be offering in 2018 as we complete Phase 1 of our renovations! Stay tuned to our blog, social media channels and our newsletter for exclusive behind-the-scenes updates and the first look at the NEW Oxford Athletic Club!
