PILATES

Group Reformer The Reformer is the main piece of equipment used in Pilates.  Exercises are performed using the progressive resistance of springs and can give a complete conditioning and flexibility workout for all fitness levels with focus on balance and symmetry, as users try to evenly push or pull through an exercise. Small Group Training is designed for those free of injuries or limitations and requires prior private training sessions.  *Register by completing a Registration form located in the Pilates Zone or at the Fitness Desk.  Fee: $62 1x/ 4 weeks  or  $112 2x/4 weeks

Pilates Mat – A transformational method of body conditioning that yields profound results for people of all ages and abilities.  Equally engaging your body and mind, Pilates emphasizes the uniform development of all muscle groups while promoting flexibility, circulation and skeletal alignment.  The work focuses on core muscle strength, flexibility and stability.  All levels of experience are welcome in Pilates mat class. Pilates Mat III requires previous experience. 

Pilates for Core Strength – A great combination of traditional Pilates plus some traditional fitness exercises to build endurance in the mid-section.

YOGA

The yoga program at Oxford Athletic Club offers a wide array of flowing hatha yoga postures that are linked together with breath, all classes culminate with time for relaxation.  All levels of ability are welcome.

Core Strength Yoga – Pilates and Fitness based movements are linked together with traditional flowing yoga postures offering added strength and core stabilization. 

Vinyasa Yoga – Focus on the union of breath and movement; awareness and alignment; strength and flexibility.  Postures are connected through the breath for a transformative and balancing effect that flows from your practice into your daily life. 

Yoga I – Learn correct alignment and breathing in basic yoga postures, opportunities will be given for more challenging movements to allow for progression of strength, balance and flexibility.   The Thursday morning class focuses specifically on flexibility – previous warm-up is recommended. 

Yoga II With an emphasis on precise alignment explore basic poses along with the challenges and joys of handstands, back bending without pain, deep hip openers and twists.  Finish with breathing exercises (pranayama) to center the body and quiet the mind.

Yoga HEAT Traditional yoga postures done in a warmer environment for added muscular release and flexibility.

Private Yoga Training and Yoga Therapy Sessions

Yoga is taking on a wide role in modern life and opening many doors for wellness, healing and personal transformation.  Yoga in a one-on-one environment offers many benefits from aiding in one’s sport, preparing for competition to easing job related stress and tension. Yoga as therapy can also be used to assist rehabilitation from an injury or even help those suffering from chronic illness.  This form of private training includes body mapping, meditation and customized yoga poses.

Blendz:  Yoga & Pilates – Join in this exciting class and reap the benefits of both disciplines.  Yoga poses blended with Pilates principles will target muscles other workouts leave behind…the perfect compliment to your tennis, Spinning or swimming. 

MVe Fitness Chair – Sweeping the fitness realm with a core body 1, 2 punch.  The MVe program provides a Maximum Versatility Exercise with movements seated, standing, supine and prone.  Small Group Training delivers personalized attention and RESULTS!  Try a class today!

Intro. To Yoga and Pilates This 4-week session is designed to provide step-by-step instruction on the fundamentals of yoga & Pilates.  This program provides the necessary foundation to develop a safe and beneficial mind/body practice.

Mommy and Me Yoga – A wonderfully interactive program designed for mom and baby.  Pilates and yoga are combined to strengthen and tone mom while baby enjoys engaging activity and stimulation. Class is appropriate for babies ages 6-weeks to pre-walking. 

Preschool Yoga – Bring yoga to life with fun and creative activity designed to stimulate a young child’s growing curiosity. Playful yoga poses, animated breathing exercises and imaginative relaxation techniques, teach children about their growing bodies. Classes are sprinkled with music, stories and games to spark the child’s inner yogini while enhancing language development, motor coordination and play. Ages 3 – 5.

Youth Yoga – A fun, energizing class geared to youth ages 6 to 11.  Experience yoga through game play, stories, and a myriad of animal poses.
